rainbowRainbowIt was just a few minutes agoAs my eyes swept the darkening skyThat I saw the beginnings of a rainbowA glimpse of colour that caught my eye.It was merely a smudge of accidental paintThat from some canvas had gone astrayHazy around the edges; small and quaintFading into threatening grey.But it bloomed.The colours appearing from nowhereRed, orange, green from the gloomYellow and blue and a flareOf indigo – violet came soon.It became increasingly clear(It was no longer so small and shy)This rainbow meant to persevereFully formed and ruling the sky.The colours continued to swellThe brightness, the lustre, was rifeI was pleased to see its vibrancy rebelAgainst the concrete of modern day lifeBut in the end, it was the shadow that wonThe rainbow just faded awayDisappointment as the bow was undoneThe sky was again gloomy grey.
